I have an assignment for you. Don’t worry it is an amusing one. Take a walk in your neighborhood or in a park and watch dog owners walking their dogs. Or should I say, dogs walking their owners. It should provide you with some humorous entertainment because most owners don’t have a clue how to properly walk their dog. They allow little Fido to pull and tug and twist all he or she wants.
The leash was designed to keep both puppy and owner safe and in stride with each other.
Instead most dogs use it as a tool to dictate what they want and when they want it.
Now any dog whisperer worth his outrageous fee will tell you that proper training on the leash is so vitally important for puppy and owner. The reason most owners don’t train properly is because it takes a lot of hard work, patience and tenacity.
As you can see, there is a ways to go with Chewy, but he is slowly getting used to his leash
and the walks will be much more pleasant for everyone.
Owner leads.
Puppy follows.
Owner sets the pace.
Puppy strides happily alongside.
That’s the goal.
God has the very same goal with us. He leads. We follow. He sets the pace. We stay by His side. When we do this, our lives are full of His blessing and remarkable treasures and we are safe in the center of His will. But, when we pull and tug…when we lag behind or run up ahead our lives are disjointed and out of sorts. We are vulnerable and exposed to evil and darkness never meant for us when we don’t learn cherish obedience to God.
Did I mention…Do Not Pull!
“You have a strong arm; Your hand is mighty, Your right hand is exalted. Righteousness and justice are the foundation of Your throne; loving kindness and truth go before You. How blessed are the people who know the joyful sound! O LORD, they walk in the light of Your countenance” Psalm 89: 13-15
