Puppy Lesson-Don’t Focus on the Past

Juliet-PastI cannot ride in or on anything and face backwards! Well, I can, but the result of such action is not pretty. The possibility of motion sickness increases 100% if I am backwards, so I am very intentional and will take drastic measures to not ride backwards.

Funny thing is, I have lived a good portion of my life facing backwards allowing the past to snatch away my todays and dictate my future. And, that really isn’t very funny at all. Many a lost night’s sleep and hours wasted in worry could have been avoided if I just would’ve kept my eyes and heart on Jesus for my past, present and future.

I am deeply thankful for God’s persistence in schooling me in the art of thriving in today; not worried about tomorrow and not paralyzed by my past. It has taken way too long to learn this lesson, but I praise Him for the grace and mercy to finally know it. The freedom to live richly in this way truly is priceless.

You may not be like me in a car and are more like Juliet, here; able to ride backwards in anything that is moving and not get sick at all. But if you spend precious time focusing on your past, whether that focus is positive or negative, you will miss much of what God has for you today and for your tomorrows.

We will all do well to follow Jesus’ words and His example and live each day unto itself!
