Puppy Lesson Number Seven

Another dog habit that can be disgusting is what they eat, but for our purposes in this post the focus is on how they eat.

Puppy Lesson Number Seven…
Eat Heartily!

Joey likes his food! But, so far he is unlike some dogs I’ve seen that will eat themselves into oblivion if you let them. He eats his one cup of food a couple times a day, plus a few snacks here and there and he’s good. In the picture above he is enjoying a doggie french fry. (A string of rawhide, not a string of potato.) But, when it is time to eat, he eats heartily. Of course it’s gone in five gulps, but he enjoys it! That’s how dogs eat.

We need to do the same. I’m not saying gulp it all up or swallow without even chewing. In fact quite the opposite. We should take the time to enjoy our food. More and more of us shovel food in as fast as the drive through can serve it. Not only has the art of dining gone the way of the dinosaur, the bedrock practice of family supper is fast becoming extinct. In the meantime our bellies are expanding and our pocket books are shrinking.

I have to wonder if we took more time to prepare our meals together and share them together (notice I didn’t say just eat, but to share a meal) if our families wouldn’t be healthier, both spiritually and physically.  Just sayin’…

“Whether, then, you eat or drink or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.” I Corinthians 10:31 (NASB)
